Nicholas Underwood, a patron of mine, pointed out that "gypsies" prefer to be called Roma. Please know that no disrespect or insult had ever been intended. My use of the word "gypsy" comes directly from the Universal movies with the Wolf Man. Not that it excuses a possible racial slur. But it is at least grounded in the lore, and again, never meant to offend. Since the aforementioned will show up as characters down the line, I will be sure to address the issue through them. Thanks for understanding, and of course for reading!
[Nicholas had been able to point it out to me prior to this page going up because he can read pages ahead. You can too by being so kind as to be a patron. Just a dollar per month to support the 'wolves, and every dollar counts. But for just a few more you can have access to drawings {used in creation} and inside information, the upcoming pages or even a werewolf drawn for you each month!]
Inuit vs. Eskimo seems to be a regional distinction more so than a group's preferential distinction. Although both (Inuit/Eskimo & Gypsy/Romani) do have negative connotations associated with the words, depending. I'll refer to the Romani as both (since "gypsy" is inseparable from the established lore), with an emphasis on them preferring Romani.
He would have to be registered and publicly labeled as such, as a sex offender would in real life. Also, an attempt would be made to cure/lift him of it via other Romani. This concept will be revisited later on in the comic... just have to GET to it. ;)
Talbot is merely differentiating between any Oskars (or Oscars) that might exist in Wolverton (since he doesn't know how many there are) to find out if it's the same one that Floyd had mentioned. He didn't ask "with a K" since he's not aware of the spelling. (Floyd didn't spell it.)
The name gypsy comes from the mistaken belief that the Roma's ancestor to Europe from Egypt, but the Roma have long held that they came from India, and this has recently been proven right.
Point is, given the origin of the name, could the mistake happened because the Roma learned how to do that curse when a group of them found it in an ancient Egyptian tomb and started using on their (many) historical enemies.
What would've happened if Talbot did have a gypsy curse?
